Five years ago, while walking around some stores a few weeks before Christmas, I was suddenly petrified by a scream that erupted in my mind, “Jesus Christ (the supposed reason of it all)! There are so many great songs about Christmas. Why do they keep torturing us with these super-boring ones?”
That was when, despite never having been exactly a huge fan of Christmas, I started putting together my own playlist for “the most wonderful time of the year”. Actually, the first songs I added to it are not about Christmas; they just mention it as a background for another central theme. Still, some have become so associated with such a celebration that, apparently, no one can think about them in other terms anymore. Others are, in fact, truly melancholic songs. It was my private playlist, anyway. Who would care?
Two years ago, however, I moved to a house that brought me to the kind of Christmas I used to imagine as a child. Here, I can picture Huey, Dewey, and Louie joining me at the window while we wait for the snow to make everything around as white as it can get. They, eager to go outside and make snowmen. Me, just wrapped up in a cosy and warm blanket, peacefully reading a book. Being honest, while touching me deeply, those songs I initially had in mind don’t fully convey the Christmas spirit I wanted to feel in this new home.
Then, I decided to add new songs to that “old” playlist. When doing this, I started remembering and even finding out great Christmas songs, including super-cool versions for those super-boring noises we hear out there. Long story short, I ended up with a playlist that features songs for all ages, tastes and feelings. From children to adults, singles to those in love, extroverts to introverts, I dare to bet that everyone will find here some or many songs to call their own and enjoy these days that have finally become a bit magical also to me.

As I’ve mentioned previously, ordering songs on a playlist is an art that I really don’t master. Now, having mixed so many diversity in just one place, Chip and Dale (my two brain cells; not the cartoon chipmunks) tried to arrange the songs in a sequence more or less logical to my ears. Clumsy as “they” are, I’m not sure this mission was successfully accomplished. Still, it might be a good idea to just hit the “play” button and let yourself be surprised. Worst case scenario, the “next” button is just one click away. 😬
