Hello, World! 👋🏻

When brainstorming about what the first post on this new platform would be, the title “Hello, World!” was suggested to me as a joke. “No way!” – I answered. A few seconds later, I found myself wondering, “hmm, coming from me, that title is so unpredictable that it could be actually funny” (and I did want this first post to be a light one).

And why is that so unpredictable? Well, not that I’m a master of creativity, but I can’t think of anything duller and less singular! In the universe of people who share their thoughts on the Internet, everybody knows that “Hello, World!” is nothing but a post automatically created for you in case you can’t come up with anything better to say. There’s no true content, much less any sense of identity embedded in these words (and I do enjoy having my own identity). On the top of that, in the universe where I had to work for many years, that expression marks the very first activity most students of a certain field do when they begin to learn the fundamentals of their future careers – and although I myself had never done this particular activity, it reminds me of a world to where I definitely don’t want to go back.

Voilà! All of a sudden, what was supposed to be only a joke started making total sense to me! Those two little words now remind me that while there’s a world so stressful and boring that it makes me crave for death, there’s also a world so fascinating and full of meaning that it makes me want to live forever – a world that’s full of music (above anything else), words, flavours, aromas, colours, and whatever else brings a bit of relief, comfort, beauty and joy to (my) life. Moreover, they accurately exemplify the essence of who I am – simple, absolutely simple!, at heart – and a crucial part of who I want to be: free from the pressure of being extraordinary at everything I am and do.

If you somehow relate to this feeling that you’ve already wasted too much time playing at perfection and/or would like to be in a “place” that, despite being virtual, is definitely way too real, welcome to my world! 🤗

MUSIC THROUGH MY EARS

♪ SIMPLES DE CORAÇÃO [SIMPLE AT HEART]
Engenheiros Do Hawaii
[Humberto Gessinger]

In this song by one of my two favourite Brazilian rock bands, the lyrical subject tells his loved one that they’ve already wasted too much time playing at perfection and asks her to come back home, where real life is waiting for her, and they both can return to what they essentially are: simple at heart.
